Identity over Clutter
Grab your cup. ☕ Let's cut through the noise. This week, our coaching sessions kept coming back to two themes: cutting through the market confusion for our clients, and cutting through our own internal friction to actually do the work.
Here are the two big shifts we need to make right now.
Challenge 1: The "Split" Market Freeze
The Conversation: Headlines are screaming about 6.71% mortgage rates and 36.51% price reductions, freezing your clients in place. Per HousingWire data this week: pending sales are up. At the same time, purchase apps are up 7% year-over-year. People want to move; they're just scared.
The Strategy: Be the Economist of Choice. Dig into your database, find out who is facing a real life change (remember the 5 D's?), and bring them tailored communication. You, not a national website, are the market expert. I just read Phil C Jones' newsletter this morning and here's a brilliant question to ask that buyer who simply won't pull the trigger: "When you imagine making this decision and it feeling right - what does that moment look like for you?" This question cuts through the noise between looking at pretty houses and the decision point. He said "at some point, the most useful thing an agent can do is stop opening doors and start asking questions".
Challenge 2: The Lead Gen Plateau
The Conversation: We look at our economic model, we want a "life by design," but the prospecting doesn't happen. We treat lead gen like an annoying chore, do it inconsistently, and quit when we don't get an immediate closing OR when we're just plain tired because we're busy. We are focusing entirely on the "now" business or future outcome rather than the SYSTEM. There's a reason Gary started off with the first model as the Lead Generation MODEL. It's a non-negotiable in any business…yes, we know that…and sometimes we just need some encouragement. Keep going….I see you. The business you hoped for, prayed for is here and you're exhausted. It's the proverbial shop keeper that leaves the shop at midnight but still opens at 6 am. We don't have a store front…but can we operate with that same consistency?
The Strategy: Build identity-based habits. In Atomic Habits, James Clear reminds us:
"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."
Let's focus on getting just 1% better each day at our daily systems. That tiny compounding effort makes us 37 times better in a year. When we shift to identity thinking we stop saying "I have to do lead gen" and start operating from "I am a business owner who generates leads daily." In other words, we open the shop every day rain or shine.
The Challenge This Week
Take a look at your calendar from the last two weeks. No judgment, just data.
If your business depended entirely on the compounding 1% effort you put into your lead generation systems this past week, would you be 37 times better next year—or would the machine ground to a halt?
If it's the latter, don't overcomplicate it tomorrow morning. Just block one hour, win that single hour, and cast a vote for the version of yourself you are becoming. Let me know how that one hour goes…
