250 Years of the Ultimate Wealth Vehicle

Grab your cup. ☕

I was down a total rabbit hole the other night, thinking about the USA being 250 years old. I started digging into how real estate worked back when the country was founded versus right now, and it was really interesting.

Think about the late 1700s. The government was selling off massive chunks of public land for like $1 or $2 an acre. Today, most rural farmland runs over $12,000 an acre, and most suburban neighborhood vacant lots run $110,000 to $250,000.

It reminded me of something so simple, yet we forget it every day: We can't make more land. We have what we have. Over two and a half centuries of industrial revolutions, stock market crashes, and tech booms, the single most historically proven way to change a family's financial future has just been owning a piece of the dirt.

But here is the crazy reality: we are in the real estate business. We sit at the exact center of this wealth machine. So why are so many great agents and leaders living from commission check to commission check and not buying real estate?

Here are the two things I've noticed for a long time:

1. The Trap of the High Commission Check

There is this dangerous illusion in our industry that a high income equals wealth. It doesn't.

Income is just trading your current energy for a check. We know that wealth is what stays behind and grows when you finally want to turn your phone off and go on vacation.

Historically, real estate is the bridge out of that self-employed trap (remember our cash quadrant talks?). But here is the doubt we all face: It's terrifying to take your hard-earned cash and tie it up in property when you don't know exactly when your next closing is. It requires serious discipline to not just reinvest everything back into more lead gen or a bigger lifestyle.

But if we don't start using our commission checks to buy the very asset we sell every single day, we're just building someone else's freedom while we run on a treadmill. That statement hurt just typing it out.

2. For Leaders: Wealth Building is the Tip of the Spear

Market Center Team Leaders and CEOs, I want to challenge you on this.

When you sit down with a recruit or a top producer, what are you actually talking about? Is it always about their cap, their split, or how many listings they took this month? Honestly, that stuff is important, but we know there's more.

What if wealth building became the tip of your spear?

Most agents are experts at helping other people buy property, but they completely ignore their own balance sheets. Imagine the shift if we stopped pitching our company and instead sat across from a frustrated, tired top producer and said, "Let's look at your personal net worth. Let's map out a strategy to get you your first three investment properties so you can actually retire one day."

Now we're their wealth mentor looking out for their family. That kind of relationship equity outlasts any market cycle.

The Weekly Challenge

Take a look at your own personal balance sheet this weekend, and ask yourself:

"Am I just practicing real estate to fund my current month, or am I actively using it to buy back my future time?"

If you're a leader, ask that exact question to one of your agents or a recruit this week. Have a real, human conversation about the mechanics of building real wealth.

Hit reply and let me know what you think. Are you actively looking for your next piece of dirt, or is the fear of the current market holding you back? Let's talk about it.
